Remember the fable from Aesop? Androcles pulls a thorn from the lion's paw. Later, when thrown to the lions, Androcles is saved by the lion he helped. In what language do we parse such a fable? Did Androcles make a prudent social investment? Did he get a good return on his investment? Or is the point more like "Never turn an angel from your door."
