As a trained and supported activist, Rosa took risks and accepted disrespect as part of the deal. When she was shunted off stage by King and the other SCLC male leaders, she kept her dignity.
Likewise, when CORE and the liberal establishment marginalized the Deep Delta SNCC organizers and activists of Mississippi Freedom Summer, the unknown black women named in James Forman's memoirs embodied dignity and courage beyond most people's imagination.
Respect is the starting point for successful relationships; when sacrificed, little can be accomplished.

Dignity somehow gets at the idea that we are equal, God-stuff. Philanthropy, Equality, Fraternity?
