I am pleased to be speaking on a panel at Hudson Institute's Bradley Center for Philanthropy and Civic Renewal next Friday on "Advising Benefactors." A paper I wrote on that topic is "required reading" (4 pages in pdf). The moderator is Dr. Amy Kass whose book, Giving Well, Doing Good: Readings for Thoughtful Philanthropists has just now been published. Fellow panelists are Ellen Remmer of The Philanthropic Initiative, Eric Kessler of Arabella Philanthropic Investment Advisors, and Calibre's Albert Keith Whitaker. My essay in the book, my wife notes (she teaches high school English) is sandwiched between readings from Chekov and Shakespeare. I would have preferred Rabelais and Swift, but good enough.
Knowing it will amuse few, baffle most, and sting a good many of you to senseless fury, let me append the bio I have submitted to Hudson: Phil Cubeta serves as “charitable cheerleader” for a national financial services group. On his own time he blogs philanthropy at Gifhtub.org, representing himself as a “Morals Tutor to America's Wealthiest Families." His role model is Diogenes who, stark naked, accosted the wealthy of his day from within a tub, or what we would now call a dumpster. Phil’s original training was in philosophy, psychology and literature, not that that is any excuse."
Delicious bio ...
At some conferences like that, a moderator or other semi-official steward introduces the panelists. Does that happen at HI ?
If so, it would be fun to see / hear what that semi-official does with the bio .. tee hee.
