I just visualize Pierre in his cube with the statuette of Adam Smith to guide him. How his professors at Tufts must blame themselves. Four years to plant the seeds of wisdom, and 10 years and 10 billion later, what their student recalls is a tired old quote from Adam Smith about a baker. not giving away bread. How different it might be if Pierre were accompanied in his cube by a bust of Aristotle, or better yet Diogenes. Life is hard for all. As Wordsworth wrote, "A deep distress hath humanized my heart." Pierre is still very young, and his libertarian wordview may yet change as Fortune turns her wheel.
