Karen Armstrong, Monotheist, On Compassion as Opposed to Fundamentalist Rancor

Compassion, not rancor and resentment is Karen Armstrong's message. How we build bridges of understanding between Oxbridge Intellectuals, Effete Intellectual Snobs, TED Denizens, and Knuckle Dragging Fundamentalists of all Sects, whether Christian or Muslim, remains an open question. The Karen Armstrong sympathizers come at this as much from the Enlightenment as from any specific religious text. They secretly believe that evolution of human thought and civilization is towards something higher and better and more universal than the bigots they despise believe in. Yet, all these years since Voltaire, is there any evidence that hatred and bigotry and superstition and particularism are on the wane? Has Unitarian Universalism taken the earth by storm? Are Buddhists converting China? How do we get compassion to spread except through texts and traditions so specific that their adherents begin to hate or disdain those who do not share that faith, or that canon? The Rapture Ready glory in the coming apocalypse knowing that Karen Armstrong will die in her own vomit, amidst an earth in flames, as the Fundamentalists are Raptured to Heaven, saved. Can we love the Rapture Ready? I find that I do. So shoot me in the name of Compassion. Karen, come back to Ireland. Return to the nunnery. You sound way too much like an Oxford don. You have lost your roots, your religion and your God.
