Sallie B. and Wililam B. Wallace interviewed by Dr. Laurence Barton on why they founded the CAP program.
Creating the curriculum for CAP is what I do for a living these days. A new GS 859: Gift Planning in a Nonprofit Contextis due out on October 1. The goal is to bring fundraisers and well-chosen advisors together in common purpose to help wealthy families create inspired legacy plans. A prudent plan takes care of the money, the business, the heirs. An inspired plan takes care of all that but also takes care of the nonprofits the family loves and supports. Through an inspired plan a family can achieve not only financial security but also positive social impact - a better life in a better world. I hope that in some cases fundraisers and professional advisors from a given cause or community will go through the course together, so that they can develop a shared perspective, and a shared plan for helping major donors do great things. The language of inspired planning was co-evolved with Tracy Gary. She and I will be presenting on this topic at the upcoming national conference of Partnership for Philanthropic Planning.
