Ruth Rosen at Alter.net on Market Fundmentalism. Since the market will provide, government programs, private philanthropy, activism, organizing, even prayer are pretty well pointless. Of course these views are a) widely accepted b) largely irrational c) counterproductive when it comes to reforming the "externalities" of capitalism. Yet, please, don't blame it on Adam Smith. Think tank thinkers funded by corporate-lovin' ideologues, paraded through the media as pundits and experts, have drilled this message into the masses. Rather than funding counter-propaganda, soundbite for soundbite, delusion for delusion, hack for sorry hack, wouldn't it be wonderful if philanthropists would provide private bodyguards for independent thinkers?
